I'm currently refurbishing a fresh air heater for my 997 Cooper (as per Flutes How To) however the replacement heater matrix does not fit, the spacing between the replacement matrix inlet/outlets is smaller than the holes in the side cover for the heater??? Very annoying, unfortunately I do not have the original matrix.

I note on the minispares site that they sell an earlier matrix where the hole spacing was greater? Anyone else come across this issue?

Which heater type? The super early one (below) or the same design as the metal ones later Cooper and Cooper S use?

No, not the real early type with the u der hood blower. The metal fresh air as per Cooper and "S".

I too had this problem
there are two types of side plates

in the second photo you will see that it has a PVC air inlet held in with rivets
this type has the holes closer together than the one with steel inlet
you could try and get the other side plate , which is the fan end or desolder the inlet pipes off the heater matrix and reposition them

Yep, exactly the same as mine, I have the steel inlet. The correct core is available but expensive at£111 plus postage.

Might be a better financial option to source the other type of heater body if you have already spent the money and bought the new heater matrix , all you are really after is the left side panel,
another option may be to elongate the holes in your side pannel

I would maybe modify the heater matrix. Its copper and solders super easy with a bunsen torch, flux and lead solder.
