So my engine build for my van is coming close to the end...

1098..Complete rebuild of the bottom end with 40 over pistons, lightened flywheel , orange dot clutch, adjustable double row timing chain, the head is a 202 which has been ported and polished, fitted with o/s valves, re83 cam, double valve springs etc. ill run a 40 dcoe and a set of maniflow lcb headers. She will have 13's to clear the 8.4 four pots..

I have 2 gearboxes and I need some advice on the gear box options..

1, 22g1128 remote shift running a 3.76
2, 22g1832 rod shift running a 3.4

Given the set up below which is going to be my best option, car will do little to no highway driving and be used for around town and the occasional drive in the Adelaide hills..

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

The diff is relatively easy to change, so I wouldn't decide on the gearbox based on what diff it has now.

My 998 has the 3.76 diff, it's decent off the line and sits at 4000rpm at 60mph. You might find first and second a bit short with the extra power?

I like remote shift because it locates the gearbox properly. So I'd use that, but swap the 3.44 diff in.
A 3.76 is really too low for a 1098, the later Mini K and 1098 Clubby got the 3.647.
A 1098 will pull a 3.44 easy, even the late 998 Clubbies ran it.

+1 go the remote but fit the 3.4 CWP into it.

My engine specs are pretty similar to yours but I run twin SU's. The 1098 will be very happy with the 3.44 diff. Mine pulls like buggery around town and low down and is very quiet at 100 kph as well. I would have no hesitation in using the 3.4 over the 3.6.

and what a struggle it was for those pollution 998s.

Ah yes, but they are a good source for 3.44 pot joint diffs, eh what!
