Post subject:  Thermostat Housing Question
I've just come across a new alloy radiator for my 76 clubman however the clubman is fitted with a rear facing thermostat housing and the radiator has a forward facing top hose. Is the bolt pattern the same to just swap the rear facing housing for a front facing housing?
Probably a stupid question but just want to be sure.

I have done this to a friend's car (with a 1098 motor). The bolt pattern is close. I had to mod a top rad bracket to fit.
There is a proper thermo housing for this though, also one for a 1275, with the rad hose to the rear. You can find them on eBay.

I thought the answer was a straight up yes Kev?

I didn't think the bolt pattern changed for any head?.

If you measure the 3 bolt spacing on the head, it is an isosceles triangle, not quite an equilateral one. But it will fit due to the hole clearance.
That's why the gasket only fits properly, 2 ways.

Note you can't do this with a 1275, the different bolt pattern angle points the hose at the head.

Yes, you can fit the earlier thermostat housing to match the new radiator.

Oh I see what you mean Kev, you mean to rotate the thermostat housing you already have with a little elongation of the hole.

No need to elongate the holes, they have a bit of clearance. But stick an 8.5mm drill through them to clean the crud out.

we have the new (early) thermostat housings , hoses & gaskets etc here if you need them
i`m at the shop all day & night today/night building gearboxes
so if you need a housing &/or gaskets &/or anything else then i`m here till late tonight
& tomorow
& the next day
& the next day
but probably going surfing friday :-)
