Post subject:  Wheel alignment / Suspension height - With or without driver
Chasing some info on ride height and suspension settings.

My car drops 10mm on the drivers side with me in it.

How many people sit in there cars while a wheel alignment or suspension height adjustment is carried out?

How much would the 10mm in height difference change camber caster and toe?

I have my roadie set higher on the drivers side because of this.. Not an exact science though, i guesstimate and once firmly in place in the seat, i haven't taken pictures or compared ( rarely have a second person around to do these things). Camber , castor etc..... no idea, but i don't think adjusting everytime a passenger gets in or out etc is realistic. But as 85% of the time i drive one up, i prefer to make that initial allowance for my not too modest weight ( being polite) Having said all that , i live in qld and have it set pretty high in deference to the size of the potholes ( subtle dig at the state of the roads up here) , so not ideal to begin with. Thanks FNQ.

I took some measurements today with the missus in the drivers seat (Not sure how much she weights - not game to ask :) ) anyway with a 10mm drop on the drivers side the negative camber dropped 0.25 degrees on both wheels. I got her to hop in and out 3 times and my readings always came out with a 0.25 degrees difference.

Now I have camber set to ( -1.25 and -1.5 fronts ) (-0.75 and -1 rears). When I hop in they level out to (-1.25 fronts) and (-0.75 rears).

Although I am alone in the car 80% of the time I only set my ride height to 5mm higher on the drivers side to allow for changes in fuel / passengers.

Now just to recheck caster and toe.

that is good info to know --- 1/4 degrees no excuses for understeering to one side now

Great work gto, I had my car at the mechanic today to check out a wheel wobble, and asked him if he ever does his wheel alignments with someone in the drivers seat, and he said never, but admitted theorically he probably should.
He balanced all the wheels which helped and adjusted the front right wheel bearing, but found the front left 10" cooper steel rim was buckled.
So will need to find a truely round one or get this one re-rolled.
Also found out the wet suspension on the drivers side is a little low when we had two people in the back the other day, as the rear drivers side wheel was rubbing on the arch.
No point me getting a wheel alignment until this is all sorted.

Eventually I plan on getting a wheel alignment done to confirm my "home made contraptions". Still busy fixing up heaps of little things as I go. Everyday I drive the car another issue pops up. I suppose that is all part and parcel of owning these cars.
I rang a few of the big tyre places about a wheel alignment and they didn't want to touch a 10" wheeled mini. Probably end up going with one of the mini shops.

Light Wheel Alignment in the city. I have used these on a number of Minis, and a couple of mates do too for their Nb cars.
Haven't had any problems at all, and they are quite thorough indeed.
