With a 74.7mm bore and aftermarket 91mm stroker crank you can get to 1596cc. However Vizard said it's a rough running motor, and devoted a chapter to proving it's pretty pointless. He concluded 86mm stroke is the max worth doing, that will give 1508cc with 74.7mm bore. The pistons used for all this fun back then were Triumph 2.5PI ones. Dunno if still made... |

Back in the early 80s For long stroke A series I used to use the Mazda Capella Pistons from mazda TC engine. They are shorter in deck height and the only mod piston needs to make fit on rod is that the gudgeon pin hole needs to be honed out to fit the cooper S gudgeon pin. They start from STD at 73 mm to about 74.5mm. Great piston. I mentioned these to Graham Russell back then and he seemed very interested. I think the pistons he sells now are the same but he had them factory made for use in Minis. Using the 2.5l Triumph Piston which fits straight on the rod used to involve shaving a fair chunk out of the top of the block something like 3/8 of an inch. Good bye engine number etc. There were even people using Datsun Pistons back then which involved fitting a Bush in the rod to take the smaller datsun pin. I considered this as another thing to fail that was when I sat down and worked out I can use the Mazda piston. There were people that told me it wouldn't work. Them i proved wrong I still have one of my Road Minis with one of these Modified engines using Mazda pistons which I built back in 2004 still going strong. I still have another engine sitting here all wrapped up which I bored out to 74.5 using these Mazda Pistons which I never got to finish as I suddenly stopped racing Speedway. It is complete Pistons fitted to Rods and stroked '1505' crank (84 mm stroke). Which I will be selling soon. Big clear up coming. |

Ahhh,,, i know the car,,,  I hope it`s still owned by a friend of mine (Bob) i`ll be contacting him shortly Anyways,,, one of the reasons that motor exists in that car is because of my own 1510cc engines there`s a whole story devoted to this situation & it`s a funny one, lots of Lakeside & other race tracks involved anyways,,, for another day...but my mate Stew has a 1591cc in his, with 6-speed dog box & Arden alloy x-flow head & so yes it`s do-able & yes it`s been done , & yes that one is real cause i know it is

oh, & just to let everyone know,,, just the motor/box is worth the starting bid... easilly!!! & that car does 1min6secs around Lakeside with the owner driving it, i know it is well faster than that tho, even tho Bob drives well, no offense intended or meant or implied just that it has way more in it than what Bob did with it. he runs it up every week or so to keep it fressh & lovely, it`s been a very well looked after car |
