Post subject: | Which fuel tank |
While commencing to install my Smooth A Ride kit today, I was trying to move the fuel tank and it started leaking along the bottom. When I finally got the tank out it had rust along the bottom face where it sat on insulation that must have been wet and caused the tank to rust through from the outside. So a new tank is required. Is it worth chasing a hopefully good used one or just she'll out for a new one. I'm considering the 7-1/2 gallon one for extra capacity. Any suggestions ! |

If it is leaking through pinholes you can get it repaired. POR15 do a repair kit, it lines the tank with epoxy and it'll never leak again. Available from VG Auto Paints and other resellers. There is also a Redline? kit, sold by motorcycle shops. May be cheaper, I dunno. http://www.por15.com/POR-15-Fuel-Tank-Sealer_p_64.html |

I think another tank might be better peace of mind. I've never used one of the tank liner kits, but they aren't cheap. I've heard they are used a lot in the motorcycle world - kreem tank liner seems to be used a lot. However, if you do a search for kreem tank liners on some of the bike forums, most of the questions are about ho to remove the old kreem that's clumping and peeling off! POR do make fantastic products, but I've never used their tank liner. The only new tanks I know of are from minisport: http://minisport.com.au/fuel-tanks-fittings Not cheap though. If you put an ad in the wanted section I'm sure somebody must have a spare tank in good condition. |

If you want the big tank,: search www.trademe.co.nz. They were common over there. |
