Hi guys need help removing this part on my steering rack so I can service it. Any advice doing this without destroying it?Image

very carefully drill out the "punchmarks " unscrew the end pierce do whatever you need to and reassemble if the marks realign you can carefully spot weld the holes or re punch .

that is what we did on mine :)

Use 2 pair of pipe wrenches. If it slips on the outer part (which is hardened) grind 2 flats on it on opposite sides.
I made a C spanner to undo them, but not worth that for doing 1 rack.

When doing back up, tighten until the tierod locks tight, then undo it 1/12 of a turn (no more) and tighten the lock nut back against it, firmly. Then stake the nut with a hammer + pin punch.
:idea: If you swap the old lock nuts L>R and vice versa, they `often' tighten in a different spot, so you can restake them.
If you need new locknuts, John Smidt and Karcraft both carry them.
