Hi all, We're having a bit of a family fued. We've just purchased this '64 Traveller totally original everything, now this is where the blewing starts!! The Mrs wants to Customise everything ie. ( Big wheels, Paint, Custom Interior the lot ) not me I want to do Total Restoration !!! as we have already done a Custom '63 K. We are running a Poll so please let us know by your votes as what to do???? Looking forward also to your comments.

Original mate. Theres not too many travellers around and it would be murder to hack up something as rare as this. My 2c anyway... not like you'll care on your final decision

That was on ebay a couple of months ago yea? You would be insane to do anything other than an original resto on that! |

It would retain more value if it were original wouldn't it. I'd go original on this one, however I know what it is like to argue with "the Mrs" over how a mini should be restored..

Agreed, except when they are into minis as well and fund half the project. I am letting her choose the light blue colour I like though I just get to pick the motor specs

It would be a crime to customise that vehicle, and Aussie16: Can I see you outside for a minute? The traveller is a picnic car, and should be retained as such. You could find some period mags (eg Dunlops), pep up the engine a little, discrete stereo etc, but any bodywork mods will be money down the drain and the loss to the 'community' of a great original and increasingly rare car. Put it this way, if you customise it, it will be a head turner. As people turn to throw up. |

I agree with the majority here. Go the restoration on a Mini like that. Wish I had it.

Keep it original as these are really hard to get. Restoration all the way without a doubt. |

Similar dilemma I'd have. I wouldn't go full blown mods, nor would I keep a car 100% as it left the factory. So, here's what to do. Find the original colours list, pick what you like and work around that as a base colour. Fit some 12" wheels, and do whatever to the interior, but the point would be to not touch the shell in any way that it can't go back to what it once was. (eg, 13" wheel arches, sunroof, etc) I liked the way my car sat. Body was completely untouched from stock, but the wide tyres and racing interior made it look like a whole different car to what it once was. Think of how long you'd have the car. If you were to have it for say 10 years minimum, modify it now and restore in the future, otherwise, if you are looking at it's value, original is the way to go. |
