Even if the bump stop is OK, I wouldn't be too concerned about it rubbing when jacked up. I usually remove the floor jack before driving mine, problem goes away.

G'day, So I was doing some work on the van today and noticed these few things: There are spacers fitted to the wheels, wheels are jellybean 4.5 x 100. Can anyone recommend a 5 - 6 inch wide rim that will work with 10" disc brakes and no spacer (I don't like the idea of having spacers fitted and wanted wider tyres anyway, so good excuse)? The two rear shocks look relatively new but the two front ones look older, the front left also has a shiny spot that looks like it might be leaking (pic below), is it just worth replacing the front two or is this ok? When I had the front jacked up, the front drivers side drive shaft was rubbing on the frame, now the last mini i had didnt do this. Is this a sign of something wrong/worn with the suspension setup somewhere? Thanks in advance |

Replace the drums with ones that have built in spacer. Not many wheels have 5" and the right offset to use with spacer drums without having flares. The LS offset Contesta and Rosepetals are the most likely candidates. Others require flares if you don't already have them. Looks can be deceiving with shiny shocks. Pull them off and compare how hard it is to compress them to the front ones that you can be sure are not very good. If they are equally bad, replace them as well. When I had the front jacked up, the front drivers side drive shaft was rubbing on the frame, now the last mini i had didnt do this. Is this a sign of something wrong/worn with the suspension setup somewhere? You can see from your picture that the inner bush on the lower control arm is split and coming out. This would be a clue that there are other things worn out and causing the misalignment that results in the rubbing. Looking like a complete rebushing is in order. Thanks in advance |

Thanks for the help, I'm going to be replacing the drums with the minisport 7.9" disc brake front and kad disc rear, I'm guessing that will change the offset I need as well. Looks like I will go through and do a complete overhaul of the suspension components while I'm at it. |

It's be kinda strange to fit such high end gear and leave everything else stuffed and filthy. I'd go KAD on the front too if possible, their stuff is made in the UK and seals and pistons are available as spares. I think the driveshaft rubbing is from the subframe being bent up from repeated jacking, the lower arm pin should have a flat to locate it, that may have been damaged, causing it to rotate so the bent bit no longer clears the driveshaft |

nah, it's not from jacking under the subframe... Take the same photo with the weight of the car on the wheels, either with the jack under the ball-joints or back on it's wheels. The driveshafts will be more level |

With regards to the rubbing, I would replace the square rebound buffers (under top arms) as well as the shocks. |

Yes the reason the driveshaft rubs there is because there is a rubber stop which sits under the upper control arm. When they are old/missing it allows the suspension to droop lower causing the driveshaft to come closer to the point of rubbing. Also as mentioned your lower control arm bushes are had it. I would suggest closely inspecting the whole steering and suspension components and getting them all taken care of before spending money on things like rear discs. |

Even with those control arm stops removed, mine still had a fair bit of clearance with the driveshaft. It looks like your control arm bushes are rooted as mickmini pointed out, would be worth checking the condition of the top control arms too. It could also be your engine mounts - if the engine sits lower, the driveshafts will too. |

I am going through the online shops trying to make a list of a complete set of bushes and suspension components, while I am doing the brakes and replacing a couple it's worth just doing the whole lot, it would be nice if there was just a kit with everything though |
