I suppose it really varies as to how built I want it. In my usual indecisive self I am wanting to scrap my 1275 auto plans and just put a built motor in. I see some on ebay for 5k-6k for a 1400cc motor. I would like something quick and fun. Dont mind rowdy as I will probably drive it more on weekends. I will need the pedal box etc as I currently have an auto in it. but just trying to get an idea of how much I would need to budget? maybe GR or len read or greig ahve a built motor they want to move on lol |

If they are from "minimakeovers" I have heard some dodgy reports about their motors, so I wouldn't buy one. |

Don't buy an ebay motor. Talk to some builders for prices. It all will depend on your spec as you already are aware. |

Depends how built you want your built motor to be ![]() There's a few items that send the total up pretty quick - quaife LSD $1000, SCCR gear set - $1000 etc etc and then the most expensive part...labour! ![]() |

Expect to pay $6K for something half decent fully rebuilt engine and gearbox. When you start chasing hp it will start to add up very quickly. I nicely sorted moderate 1293 will be all you need. |

As Babes said, around 6k. I'm getting a nice road 1293 done at the moment. Expecting it to come up to about the 6K mark from a very reputable builder. Plus buying a motor already built from ebay, you have no idea what has actually been done to it, and you probably wont get to see where it has been built or who actually built it. Its much nicer talking to an engine builder about what exactly you want from the motor and being able to check out the progress during the build. |

engine size will depend on the block of course, not too many blocks out there that will take a 20 thou overbore. Anyway a 1293 will cost the same as a 1360. |

Are you talking rebuilt (your bits) or buying one outright? It is easy to spend $1K-2K just on the gearbox if bought then rebuilt properly. As TK said, beware buying a built motor on eBay. I know 2 people here that got burnt. One badly ![]() ps. I have 2 std bore blocks (with caps) here that will clean up at -.020". Auto or manual, take yer pick. |
