Post subject:  Run an engine without carby

Hey all,

I want to get an engine running on the floor before i swap the grearbox on it.

Problem is, i dont have a matching carby and manifold for it at the moment.

Would i be able to run it by spraying something like start-ya-bastard directly into the manifold?

Or is that a dumb idea?

You could do it but you would need some sort of throttle or choke.

I have run injected cars without a computer or fuel pump by filling the air filter with petrol and letting it suck the fumes. (but they don't run very well!)

Be sure to look right down the inlet, nice and close while you do this.

It worked on my other old car before I rebuilt the carby, a little spray every couple of seconds keeps it going.. Just be careful of backfires, which gets very interesting!

When I worked for API we used to start injected jap engines by using a spray bottle of petrol, just a spray every now and then to keep them running. Then we could say they were "tested"
