Post subject:  body seam enquiry

Hi im restoring a mini at the moment and the 4 body seams have been taken of and welded up . I have been told that if there removed in qld that you need an engineer to certify it . Just want to no is that true . Thanx alot

I'm pretty sure that is the case in all states now.
Deseaming is dangerous if not done properly. I bought a deseamed Deluxe once, it was so badly done that I scrapped it.

They do hold the car together but it is just a long weld. So long as the de-seaming is a good weld it should be as strong.
However you are changing/modifying the way the body is held together so technically yes it should be engineered and mod plated.

Ok cool no worries thanx . As the mini i got is de seamed and was wondering wot to do . And also thought about a tilt front as the front is all rusted and needs replacing aswell .

Where are you located?
A flip front can be quite hard to do and it will also need engineering.

Im in jimboomba qld . Car needs a fair bit of work . Im just wanna start it and hopefully get it on the road

I think in qld you can only do flip fronts on pre 71 cars too?

I am in Queensland (Gold Coast) and have a road registered, engineered and complied fibreglass flip front on a 75 body.

I had braces fabricated that extend from the body work at the top shock mounts, then mount onto the front of the subframe. The Compliance Engineer checked all the hinge mount design, the brace design and the quality of the front end. He then certified the design AND installation quality. It wasn't cheap to get the Blue Plate for Queensland Transport but I also got a modified fuel tank, half roll cage and nonstandard seats onto the same Modification Blue Plate.
