ID plates were deleted from the Mini range in early 1969 with the BMC document referenced below specifying the change point. However I'm trying to confirm whether it actually happened in practice at those precise car numbers. If you own a vehicle built in the first half of 1969 or know someone who does could you please check if your car has an ID plate or not, and report back here (or via PM).

BMC Service Liaison Summary #169 dated 2nd May 1969

The identification plate has been deleted from all passenger vehicles, and the final vehicle number is stamped direct to a body panel. A pressure sensitive label indicating the paint code is located in a similar position to the deleted identification plate. The new position for the Mini is the LH valance radiator cowl.

Commencing car numbers: Mini 1100 - 501, Mini "K" - 711, Cooper S - 5393

Doug, here's the plate from my brother-in-law's Mini K. Looks like it was 18th car before the cutoff. I wonder how many they were building each day?

hey - that 5393, that's the number on the radiator cowling, right? my blue S was a bitza, but was genuine body shell. It had a repro ID plate, and I reckon the number might've been 54xx...

I wonder if I have a picture of the plate somewhere.

Car #627 (ie the 127th Mk2 built) was delivered April/May 69 and had no plate.

I have a Mini k that is number 12xx, it has no plate on the firewall. the rego papers say it is 01/1969 but i think someone guessed that number at some stage. The wiper motor is stamped 6/69, havnt checked any other dates.

Wiper motor date: 3/69

No ID plate.

The wiper motor on my Mk1 S is 1/69 and the body number places it around March 69 build?
It has an id plate.
