Can anyone confirm for me that the supposed colour for the (white) round speedo binnacle (ADU3741) is Old English White? Thanks.

They were not painted, they where just a cream/offwhite plastic. Unfortunately they tend to yellow with age. There are reproduction ones around now and they appear to be close to the right colour.

I would have thought they were more creamy than old English white.

I will try to get a photospectrometer reading tomorrow on the protected section on my old plastic binnacle. It has colour in spite of it just being plastic.

The binnacles on early cars were painted, the binnacle was made out of compressed cardboard, sort of like mdf and usually painted white.

The parts manual says Old English White, but it also says that about a lot of other bits that are white (for example, wheels). Several of these parts were sourced from outside suppliers, so they just painted them whatever white they had. I'm pretty certain the binnacle falls into that category.

I just re-did my binnacle, and I used 'BMW Pepper White 850'. I've been doing a bit of research into OEW, and it's the best match I've found in a modern colour.

It came up ok for a piece of cardboard

Very early 850's (1960) were painted black crinkle finish. So was the wiper motor body.
