| Post subject: | Alloy Radiator |
Looks like I need a new radiator and was looking at the alloy ones, does anyone have good or bad thoughts on these, I would really like to find out if they are as good as they say and if they fit and who is the best place to purchase |

Quite a few people use them, I think the only real issue is it can sometimes be a little fiddly to fit the shroud onto them. but I think that problem differs from unit to unit, as there are a few different ones available |

I went from a 2 core copper to a 2 core alloy (normal thickness alloy) The alloy one ran hotter so i put the 2 core copper back in. |

The 2 core copper ones are OK for slightly modded engines as I have one in my 1100 van. I think it originated from mini spares UK, and I purchased from Karcraft in Sydney. I have a mini spares alloy one in my Supercharged mini and it rarely reaches 1/2 on the temp gauge. And I know the gauge works as the temp went to red when the thermostat stuck

got one in 73 van no problems will be changing the other cars over in due course happy with them

I put one of the 50mm Chinese alloy radiators in. This is its 4th summer and never had an issue. Engine sits on 80 to 85 degrees and even on a hot 40 degrees Canberra day, sitting in traffic, the temp gauge won't move. Mine also has a recovery cap on the radiator so I run an expansion tank. |

Be careful mounting the alloy radiators. They take 6mm screws to hold the shroud on, and they MUST be short ones. If too long, you will punch holes in the core. Some rads come with correct short screws, some with none. So, watch it.

i fitted one to my daihatsu moke, and never had an issue with it, just one of the yum cha cheap ones from ebay |

There is nothing wrong with Alloy radiators. Have not come across a bad one yet. Easier to fit than the original type and cool quicker and better. If not so there is an underlying problem with the engine. |
