The Australian Cooper Register is now live.

Navigate to Board Index > Mini Registers > Australian Cooper Register.

... or click this link viewtopic.php?f=47&t=91060

Feel free to provide comment and feedback in this thread. Hopefully additional vehicle data will be forthcoming.

Enjoy. :)

By the way, a big thank you to Graham in Aus for providing a lot of the data for this register, and for proof reading the first version. Rather than wait until all the data was squeaky clean it was decided to publish it for comment by the forum members.

Yes, thanks to everyone who has made these lists a reality. They are superb.

By the by,
Compare the first image you have of the ID plates to my own :)
Pretty cool, would have shared the same stamper, only 10 plates apart :) :)

Note the offset letter and numbers are mostly identical too.

These are only 2 away from each other. I notice that 3783 is listed with the wrong colour white roof on the register.

Something I noticed about the engine prefix on the ID plate. When they changed from 9F/SA/L to 9FA/SA/L there was a few cars where the "A" was hand stamped into a space between the 9F and the /SA/L as if they were hedging their bets over which engine was going to be fitted, the 997 or 998.

They did a similar thing with the Mini 850 when they changed to the local motor.

The handstamped A is due to this car being very close to the period where 997 engines were still being fitted.
As for all these registers being online, good for the true enthusiast. But a faker's paradise for those able to build a clone car in any part of the globe!

I own #3783, and yes it's a Nurburg White roof, not Toga as listed.
I also own #2179 and it can have a red interior added.

Cheers

The pros and cons of publishing this type of data has been debated often on Mini, Holden, Ford and other marque forums and that will no doubt continue. I don't see anything wrong with a healthy discussion on the subject.

The registers don't show whether a car still exits or not, so anyone using data from a register to fake a car will run the risk of it being discovered through the registration process.

Personally I think the benefits for current and prospective owners of these models in publishing the data far outweighs the risk that some of the information may be used to create a clone or replica. The common advice for someone about to purchase a car is to seek expert opinion on whether or not it is genuine. Some Australian Mini Car Clubs offer a service along those lines. I suppose it's similar to buying a piece of antique furniture or an oil painting that is claimed to be rare and valuable. You really need an expert to examine it to verify authenticity if you plan to shell out a lot of money.
