As for all these registers being online, good for the true enthusiast. But a faker's paradise for those able to build a clone car in any part of the globe!
The pros and cons of publishing this type of data has been debated often on Mini, Holden, Ford and other marque forums and that will no doubt continue. I don't see anything wrong with a healthy discussion on the subject.
The registers don't show whether a car still exits or not, so anyone using data from a register to fake a car will run the risk of it being discovered through the registration process.
Personally I think the benefits for current and prospective owners of these models in publishing the data far outweighs the risk that some of the information may be used to create a clone or replica. The common advice for someone about to purchase a car is to seek expert opinion on whether or not it is genuine. Some Australian Mini Car Clubs offer a service along those lines. I suppose it's similar to buying a piece of antique furniture or an oil painting that is claimed to be rare and valuable. You really need an expert to examine it to verify authenticity if you plan to shell out a lot of money.
