Hey everyone.

I am restoring the headlight buckets for my build. I have four headlights (two from two different cars) and I have noticed:
- Type 1: Round backed, small hole for cables to exit, Lucas written on it
- Type 2: Flattened section on the back, larger hole for cables to exit, looks to be aftermarket.

I only have 1 of the Type 1s (see below):

I have three of the Type 2s:

So here's the thing - my new wiring loom has a small grommet on it which leads me to believe I should use type 1. It would mean I have to source another bucket. A quick internet search seems to show that I can source this from the US
http://www.minimania.com/part/MS14/Meta ... dget--Mini

Is the inner chrome ring interchangeable between the two types? If not, I'd also have to get a second inner ring.

The other option is to use some larger grommets and fit all of the gear to the Type 2 buckets. But if I need to replace some of the chrome work, and if the inner rings aren't interchangeable, I doubt I can source the replacement rings.

Any ideas on which way I should go?
- Buy another Type 1 metal bucket from the US and another inner chrome ring from MiniKingdom
- Use the Type 2 buckets and just find a large grommet for the new loom to exit the buckets

Any info gratefully received

Thanks - do you know if the inner chrome ring is interchangeable between the two?

There's an inner chrome ring????? Not on any of my cars... Its painted black. The only chrome is the outer trim ring - which may have a brass rivet, a outy dent (pimple?)... or nothing at all on top....???

Oh, and all are interchangeable..

Cheers, Ian

The headlight bucket with the flat back is still available new, they are fitted to the locally made Iveco Acco trucks. So you should be able to get the big grommet from Iveco if you can't get it from a Mini place.

Morbo - I have a couple of spare type 1 buckets, plus the inner chrome rings that hold the lamp unit in place. If you are looking for originality and don't want to buy new ones from OS you are welcome to them. I'm in Melbourne. Alternatively, I don't think these buckets are especially rare so I would've thought any Mini wreckers or spares place in your area would have them secondhand.
