Post subject:  choke adjustment

Hi everyone,
I have adjusted up my su, and am very happy with how the car runs. carby is doing exactly as it should when pushing up the little pin at the back and is strong through the whole rev range with no smoke and good plug colour. The choke though when pulled out to start cold isnt doing as it should. Can start it with choke out a tiny bit and holding accelerator pedal down a little till it warms up. When i pull choke any more it just wont kick as if too much fuel (only guessing here?). Anyone have a procedure to adjust the choke somehow?
Cheers,
Steve

Not and expert but you may need to increase the accelerator movement with choke use. There should be another screw which opens the throttle when the choke cable is pulled; separate from the movement of the choke itself.

Watch how the choke operates while someone pulls on the choke for you. There should be two stages.

Stage 1 - cam moves and increases throttle/idle speed only. Jet does not move.

Stage 2 - Lever moves jet down increasing flow of fuel and throttle also continues to increase.

There should be a small screw that you want almost touching the cam when the choke is off so that as soon as you pull on the choke it will increase the throttle. Make sure it is not touching when in and at idle though.

The normal procedure for a dead cold car is choke right out and as soon as it starts usually very soon back to half way so you just have a high idle speed.
