Hi All, Having only been here since 1981, when did the speedo dials change to KPH from MPH. Also what model of Mini would have been fitted with a 200KPH speedo (Smiths). Thanks Forbes |

There was a changeover period. 1971, Clubmans that were released had both mph and kmh n their speedos. This continued through 72 and I think went to km only in about 74 (Someone will correct me if im wrong) 200km he was the mk2 Cooper S and clubman GT. The mk1 went to 130mph |

Mk 2 S's never had kph speedos - they were 130mph speedos although numbers only went to 120mph whereas Mk 1 S's were also 130mph speedos and were numbered to 130mph. I believe there were no large dial 200kph speedos fitted to Aust minis but not sure about what was fitted to later clubmans but maybe someone could answer the clubman speedo side of things? I believe the official changeover to metric was 1 July 1974 and I vaguely remember the television advertisement explaining how to convert - I also remember my dad using masking tape to "relabel" the speedos on the family cars to make it easier for my mum and sisters. Cheers |

(or was it 880) turns/km. Works fine in a Mini with 3.647:1 diff. Many Minis here now run a 200KMH `Cooper S' speedo but these are aftermarket, were used in Mk3 Cooper S in UK. |

You can also get a funky sticker to convert your old speedo ![]() ![]() ![]() There were also some UK assembled cars exported to Europe with km speedos. |

If that's your speedo timmy, get some nail polish or hobby paint of the right colour and thinly paint the under-side of the pointer |

Get a pointer that hasn't got the tip broken off. We probably should scan these speedo conversion stickers and get someone to make them for the forum. (Dave King?) I think there was one for the 850, one for the Deluxe, one for the K and possibly one for the Clubman. I have a new Morris 1100 one still in the bag. |

That speedo isn't in the car, I'll be taking it and my other one to get fixed as they both have non-functioning odometers. I can scan this sticker as I haven't stuck it down. |

I have one of these in my 850, if someone did them in silver though I'd buy one That would be the advantage of getting them redone. They could make the correct colour for the 850. |

I can appreciate that people would like to see their speed in kph. however it is quite easy to convert any posted speed sign to mph. all you need to know is your six(6) times tables. take the first number and multiply it by 6 and that will get you dam close. 40 sign - multiply the 4 x 6 =24 mph 60 sign - multiply the 6 x 6 =36 mph 80 sign - multiply the 8 x 6 =48 mph 110 sign - multiply the 11 x 6 =66 mph |
