Guys and gals..... what are the symptoms when your clutch has a buggered diaphragm???? I originally thought that it may have been a bent adjustment arm but it now seems that this is not the case after inspecting this morning...... When i depress the clutch pedal to the firewall the revs drop and the pedal goes very hard. In addition to this the clutch feels "spongy when depressing.......... i have just bled the clutch slave cylinder to no avail, the problem persists ![]() Thoughts??? |

That sounds like the clutch is going too far. If the big nut on the end of the clutch cover is not adjusted right or is missing the clutch may have too much travel. A split diaphragm will cause clutch slip. |

Can you put it in gear before you reach full travel? if so it probably is going too far. thse big two nuts are there for a reason |

Guys, i thought about that and the arm itself looks as though it is not extending much at all (as in bugger all travel) and seems the shaft thatb the big nut locks onto has some movement and slop. I gather that that is not the normal thing ![]() |

So bugger all movement then? How much space is there between the adjustment screw when you hold the cluch arm against the diaphram? sould be like 5mm Sounds like a cover off job to see if you may have a seizing trowout bearing. NAV did that and ate the pressure plate just for good measure. |

that sounds very much like the thrust bearing has crapped itself - same symptoms happened to my van on the way back from Hay last year. Pedal felt funny, and went very hard half way to the floor, the engine revs would drop because the thrust is gripping on the pressure plate & trying to stop it from turning 30 minute check & fix job, take the clutch cover off and the thrust bearing is attached to the plunger thingy in there.... if you need detailed instructions, just ask |
