Hi All,

In need of some help here.
Would the photo attached indicate rod or remote type gear change?

The VIN plate I have tells me this is a 1977 Leyland Van and reading information sources reads it is a rod change type going by the year of manufacture, but the floor looks like a remote style change?

Thanks in advance

77 model mini is a rod change.

I thought ALL mini vans had a wandering gearstick or pudding stirrer straight from the diff housing. Must have changed when rod change was introduced in about 74.

The gear tunnel is slightly different for a rod change compared to a remote change. There is a slight rise in the tunnel (making it higher) just in front of the cut out. Remote tunnels are all the one level tunnel (I hope that makes sense)

Not hard to fit remote change if needed. The back edge of the hole needs a trim, and 3 holes drilled for the tunnel bracket.

Hello. The pic is a remote change floor pan (gear change rods enclosed in an alloy housing that bolts rigidly to the diff housing). In UK this floor design was on all cars up to mk3, but as I've read with great interest recently your Aus spec cars differ in many ways! The rod change tunnel has a flat top with the opening for the gear lever on the horizontal top surface.

Yes, I spotted the hydro channels - great idea. Is there an ausmini history / production spec guide you could direct me to please? The more I read, the more I want one!

Hi Guys,

Would a UK rod change mechanism fit an Aussie floor?

If you mean a spec guide to an Oz Mini Van there's a brochure of one of the models in our Brochures section.

MikeyB,,, the rod change assy will fit yes, but the rear bracket & mounts are different

if you wanted to "Bolt it in" then obain an aussie rear bracket or drill the 2 holes to suit the Phomy bracket & mounts.
