Hi all, has anyone considering a computer cooling radiator for keeping those modified engines cool? I found these on eBay and must say, they might be a good fit if you remove the oil cooler. There are a few different lengths available.

Doubt it would hold pressure and capacity wouldn't be big enough

I definitely don't think it's necessary to fit one of those. I've recently put and cheapie 2 core alloy radiator in mine with a six blade fan. Yesterday on the highway up to mooloolaba in 30 degree heat at 110kph the coolant at the head didn't get over 70 degrees for me and thats only because i have a 70 degree thermostat. so with the right radiator and fan, you shouldn't have any cooling problems. Especially if the fan is around the right way. I've made that mistake for 3 years without knowing!!!

keep those left field ideas coming, i like people who think outside the box...... but in this instance i wouldn't think ideal. If you do want extra cooling or just the extra volume of water they create, get a heater core and mount up the front as you suggest. For the same rough price you can get a brand spanking new commodore heater core http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/2521007 ... ue&viphx=1 which also fits behind grill from memory, but you could take a twenty to a wreckers and find one of a size/hose orientation to suit) Cheer Darryl

Have used a GMC pickup truck heater core for hot weather driving (e.g. Mojave Desert in USA and across the Kimberley in Australia). After a Scottish friend cracked both his block (fortunately liners in bores) & head crossing the Mojave, we made it the 1,800 miles home without incident with a heater core out front in the airflow.

A Clubby heater core fits nicely behind the grille, on both roundnose and Clubby.
Or fit a MiniMatic fresh air heater under the bonnet, it has no water tap and works the same way as an aux rad.

I have a clubman heater core juat behind the grill in my moke. Works well. Still gets hot on a 40 degree day at 100-110. But does a lot of good and just got to drive a bit gentler on the 40degree days

Clean your radiator out then, my 1360 runs normal (75-80C) in 40C heat. :) With std Matic radiator & heater.

I'm happy with the stock cooling system with my 1368.
Though I might have to upgrade it when I fit the air-con.

Does the moke engine shape or underguard low pressure properties make a difference. I don't know if true but stories if wind direction is a certain way then the pressure into the wheel well is counterproductive to low pressure aiding in heat transfer out?

I think it might be the rubber skirt in the wheel arch blocking the airflow but I have not done any testing.

No. Radiator is fine. Its just the moke.
The radiator used to keep my worked GT motor cool on the hottest of days.

Thanks for all the discussion people. I have recently fitted an alloy 50mm radiator to my car and it does a better job than the super 2 core that was in it. I have a Mini heater core and have had it fitted before, it did work very well when moving 60kmh or over but as soon as you stopped in traffic the gauge would start to rise.
I only have a standard N-H gauge but it would move up and sit around 1mm from the red. Not sure what the temperature is at that point?.
I like the look of those pc rads and I'm sure they would hold the pressure. If you read the info on them, they are made from high grade alloy and well constructed. Btw I got the idea from Mighty Car Mods, they used a smaller one as a cooling system for their supercharger. Worth a thought.... Richard.
