If I were to fit a 45mm side draught weber, What weber spec would I be aiming for(needles Chokes Venturies etc)

Thanks guys

Also what maximum rpm
It's large journal (whatever that is)

The valve springs on that motor (if it's the rebuilt one I think it is) are C-AEA526, good for 8000 rpm.
But that RE83 cam runs out of puff much over 6000, I'd limit it to 6500 max.

DrMini, do you mean not much use going over 6500 or don't go over 6500?

Not much left over 6500 with the RE83 cam. They are built for torque.
If you want more top end use an RE266SS. or an RE13.

Hi Doc, would the same apply with my MG Metro cam?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Yes the MG Metro cam runs out of puff up high too. There are far better cams ground now for torque and HP in roadgoing A series motors.
Today's road motor is giving the HP that race motors of yesteryear (Vizard era) got. And most improvement is in the camshafts.

Thanks gtogreen1969 for that info might be a good guide
Dr mini it probably is the motor you're thinking of. At the time
It was the recommended cam but now things may change slightly
What would an exchange be for either cam. Looking for around
7000-8000 rpm. May run turbo

Post subject:  Re: Motor Question

If you are going over 7000 I would recommend an RE282 for road use. It gives peak HP @ 7000. Or the RE286i which is pretty much a race cam. A few people here run it but it is not a traffic cam. Not much mumbo under 3500 Graham says. 282 gives similar power but is much more drivable.
(Edit) your motor has big J crank & rods. If revving more than 7000 You would want the crank wedged, and probably lighter rods- A+, or race ones.
Just remember the higher you rev it the shorter its life will be.

I think Graham charges around $130 + postage for a regrind.
Engine (not run yet) needs to be turned upside down with rockers & pushrods out to remove cam.

Doc, how does your cam behave down low. My MG Metro cam has tons of torque down low, if I change to something like the RE282 will it be a pig to drive around town?

Mine pulls away from 50kmh in 4th at light throttle. It will take full throttle @ 2700 rpm. @ 5000 it gets another surge and screams to 8000. But I now have a 7500 hard limiter.
Carb is running 36mm chokes.
