Hi all, i took apart my old doors (wind up windows, morris mini) today. the mechanisms inside them need a complete overhaul. I have a few questions: 1. the lock mechanism seems to be sealed. Is there anyway to open in to re-grease it? it's clagged up and the parts aren't moving freely 2. same thing for the internal door lever mechanism. It's pretty siezed as well. 3. My drivers door doesn't have a key lock?? I have a spare door with a key lock. Are they interchangable? as in can i use a keyed handle with the locking mechanism i have? or does it require a different locking mechanism 4. i snapped the cir-clip around the square pin coming from the external door lever. Where can i get another one?! 5. can you buy new glass for mini doors? the glass is quite scratched! 6. my door lever with the keyhole doesn't have a key. is it possible to get a key made to fit it? or do i need to buy a lever/key combo 7. when re-installing the doors, is it best to bold the hinges onto the car then try to attach the doors to the hinges? or attach the hinges to the doors and then try to line it up with the car body holes? thanks heaps! hope someone can help |

I'm no expert but I've pulled apart the doors recently. The lock mechanism is riveted together so can't be opened. I guess you would need to soak it in solvent; I sprayed the innards with motorcycle chain lube ($20). Similarly the internal remote lock mechanism although I did pull this apart but you will need to use 3/16 screws and locknuts to hold it together again. Mini kingdom sell NOS of these for about $30. Driver's door locks were keyed so presumably someone swapped yours? Mechanisms are the same regardless of key or keyless; just the handle is different. You can swap windup window locks etc for the same type, but sliding window and clubman doors are different. Circlips (E clip or whatever) you can get at most mini shops or fastener suppliers as they're a universal item. Not sure about the glass but I am looking into getting mine polished. Suspicious you may need to buy a 'new' handle + cylinder + new key if you want a key, but you can swap the cylinder if you can buy another one although it needs to be unlocked to do so. Not ready to install the doors so can't answer the rest! Jon |

You can drill through the smaller catch side of the rivet and open it up that way. To close it though you may need to buy a countersink screw of roughly the same size and peen/weld it shut. |

Just had a chat to the glass man. Can't polish the glass apparently... so need to go shopping I guess! |
