So for the first time my mini let me down. I was at my fiancés place on my way home last night and all of a sudden lost power and running on like 2 cylinders. I got out checked everything I can think of..... Fuel, spark, leads, wiring, needles in the carby, water in oil , oil in radiator and bubbles in the radiator and all seemed to check out just fine. So it's on the side of the Rd I'm at my girls house waiting for my brother to come over after wrk. What do u think it could be???? |

On a flat road, pull the spark plugs out and put car in 1st gear. Then pull the car towards yourself with thumb over each plug hole to ensure you have some compression (obviously you don't have 4 thumbs so each cyl at a time). OnSafari might be on the mark! |

cool! Happened to me in Bali recently and had the same symptoms. No warning, went from perfect to a dog in a few hundred metres. Half "drove" half pushed the thing home and the condenser was the last thing I thought of @#$%! |

Time to go electronic. No sh!tty condenser needed then! |

On a big road trip (Indonesia) I'd rather a condenser go u/s than any new fangled box of electronic trickery letting the side down!! |

I was in some VERY remote places in all sorts of conditions with zero options if something went wrong except my little box of essentials (including a condenser haha!) |

I have been running electronic for about 11 years now. Never had a problem, never had a wet ignition, no down time at all. (I have upgraded from a Pulsar to an Accuspark about two years ago) So while you are on the side of the road diagnosing your breakdown and digging out spare parts I will be motoring along with 100% reliability. If you are so worried about electronics you could always carry a spare module in the door pocket. |

What M1100 said ^^^. I've been running electronic in mine for over 20 years. First had a Pertronix in a Mk2 S dizzy, then a Nissan Pulsar dizzy, then a 45D + Powerspark module + Accuspark Stealth box. None ever let me down. Including a Minis in the Gong trip to Kangaroo Valley years ago when most all the cars with stock ignition had water problems after the heavens opened big time. ![]() [edit] BTW most of these condensers now come from China. Quality (even Bosch) is not what it was. |

It seems the only reason for running a points system is so that you can fix it when it inevitably breaks down. |

Electronic module is just 2 Philips head screws. |

Electronic module is just 2 Philips head screws. Yes, electronic is the future. No one uses typewriters anymore either.. (Although I wonder if there were typewriter stalwarts in the early 90s smashing out letters of complaint to city councils about barking dogs and pot holes...?) Electronic Points also as a side benefit remove ignition scatter almost entirely by virtue of how they trigger. Great stuff, I love them to pieces ![]() |
