Bloody hot driving a mini in the summer specially in stand still traffic. Was thinking about buying 1 of those 12v fans but just seeing what others have done? Is there anything better? Or is an aftermarket air con unit worth it?

I have a Rover with the extra thermo fan and even the other day at over 40 it still didn't get hot enough for fan to cut in. I have the standard plastic fan on engine.
If you want one grab a 10" davis craig one and fit it on outside of radiator, under guard. Just wire it up using ignition power to earth to switch relay, then if you forget to switch it of it will with key.

I had one back in the 60s, they are better than nothing. I still have an old one on the shelf. :)

I don't think they do anything other than blow hot air around inside. Unfortunately the side quarter front widows don't do much either when you're standing in traffic, although they work ok when on the move. Aircon is the answer but it never looks right in a Mini engine bay, is a pain if you have to any work in there, and adds weight.

Having said that, I drove Minis for almost 4 decades without any aircon fitted (very few cars had aircon in the 60s, 70s) throughout some of the hottest summers and survived, vinyl seats and all. Maybe we need to man up a bit more these days.

My car had one with it when I got it. I don't have it in the car most of the time, but if you are spending much time idling or in traffic it's a huge help. Once you are moving above 60kph you don't notice it if you have the windows open.
