Hi all.

I have a replacement steering rack in the mini (from minsipares) and the boot has failed on the outer end on the drivers side.

It is one of the longer ones but when the steering is all the way in the boot seems to be too long as it compresses right back on itself and buries the clamp in the rubber. I thought this is why it failed in the first place.

Was there a longer travel that necessitated the longer boot? I note there is a shorter one at about 4 inches instead of the 7 inches this one has. It seems like this one would be better if it was a good inch or two shorter.

I put a replacement one for a magna (from Supercheap) on that has the same length and diameters as the original but it has failed as well but not as badly.

Can anyone advise what boots they use. I was going to duck down to Bursons and see what they have.

Karcraft lists a short boot kit GSV1153 for Oz racks, and a longer one FSG3014 for UK racks. Oz racks are shorter in rack travel than UK Mk2 on, ours are a short version of a Morris 1100 rack.
There is also a longer boot kit for the Morris 1100 rack which may fit yours. Not sure of part number.

I have found a cable tie on the end of the boot is less likely to rip the boot than the original steel clamp and screw.

re the Karcraft numbers above, I also looked on John Smidt's online shop www.minikingdomonline.com.au and couldn't find his rack boots. I'm sure he has them in stock though.
