i have noticed that there are piles & piles of posts to topics/threads with all sorts of ,,, ah,,, er,,, how should i say this --> "inaccurate" suggestions/answers.

all sorts of gobbledee-gook stuff from telling people this part is correct or incorrect
for what-ever particular mini
to how to fix this or that...

now i get that we all like to be helpfull or maybe some of us like to sound like we know-it-all
for what-ever reason you post answers &/or suggestions,,, crickey i just post stuff cause i like to be seen to still be here :-)

but if you don`t know &/or you havn`t actually checked the accuracy of your answer or suggestion

then please just say so!!!!!!!!!!
you`re telling people the totally wrong things (not all the time but quite often) & they will most probably believe you if you`ve been on the forum for a few years, cause you "sound-like" you know what you`re talking about... but you really don`t right????

how`s about (if you`re going to say something) you say things like-->

"I`m not 100% sure but,,, blah blah blah (insert your answer or suggestion here)

or ,

"i`ve done this to my mini & it worked,--> but i`m unsure if it`s the same problem as your car"

etc etc etc

basically if you come off saying stuff that makes you sound like David Vizard or Doc mini or John Shmidt, or etc,,, then these "new-to-the-mini-scene-people" are going to run out to their minis & stuff them right up,,, or maybe buy the totally wrong bits-n-pieces for their pride & joy.

i spose what i`m trying to say is --> Make sure of your facts before you open ya gobs ok?

starting to erk me quite a bit.!!!!!!!!!!

rant over,,, now get back to learning mini stuff :-)

Maybe make this a sticky at the entrance/front-door to the place :-)

edit--> & no , i`m not a forum mod, so i probably have no right saying what i just did
it`s just my observations "over the years" & thought it may save some people some grief.

or maybe people can take all advice with caution, otherwise I can see a whole lot of people just not bothering to offer help.

Believe me there are people out there that don't own a mini business and know what they are talking about. Sometimes there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Matt is this one of your 'outburst threads' then you sit back and watch the carnage unfold?

I actually appreciate different ideas put out there. It is then up to me to research and experiment with what works and doesn't. For me though, my car is just a drivable hobby.

I've learnt over a few years of lurking around, there is a handful of members advice on here l would consider well informed, l don't open my mouth unless I'm sure of the answer

You should try the MiniMania forum, the helpful hints you get over there are the sort that could kill someone.

Some step up to provide advice, some choose not to. This forum is for the home mechanic and will usually get anyone out of strife.
An hour tinkering in ones own home is about 90 dollars of labor saved, money to put back into the car, and that's the point. People own their cars and work on them generally to learn a thing or two while constructively improving their minis.

overall, there's not much point in stating that information is inaccurate without providing input in the way of a correction. It's generally just not very constructive.

I know exactly where you are coming from Matt, & which is why during my days I despise any sort of forum with a passion.
I've gotten into quite a few passionate discussions with people who will try & argue with me & tell me that I'm wrong (well over 10 years in my job & hey if I'm wrong I'll admit it) & 'such & such' forum has diagnosed their car for them, which are more than likely people who couldn't tell a phillips head screwdriver from a flat blade screwdriver.
But in saying that there are always quite a few people on forums of varied content who know what they are talking about but won't often comment for whatever reasons, that can be a valued asset to that particular forum.

Now not that i know what i`m talking about,,, but in my limited experience,
& from my vague memory & with what little knowledge i have,,,
& with all the replys above basically agreeing
i`ve come to the conclussion that i may have said something correct :-)

no offense to anyone intended,,, just a little advise is all i was aiming at

carry on now,,, keep things nice,,, say something constructive,,,
check your facts first,,, & stay tuned :-)
