The problems at Leyland must have really come to a head by the end of the 70s and it is telling in this old Leyland video.

This cynical and self deprecating little piece tries to explain to the Leyland workforce the amplifying effects of little errors in production to the end result. It is ironic that they choose the Marina to make this point. The problems are also caused by the clapped out machinery, clumsy logistics chains, and female models working in close proximity to randy engineers, but thats a user fault as well. What hope did they have when your PR people tell people their lax workmanship kills babies?

Enjoy!

I couldn't watch the whole thing. At least the Brits could do doco-drama.
The workers are always the easy target. The guilt trips and blame-games don't encourage production line workers. The Japanese team approach works well when the workforce is easily manipulated. But no-one looks at the management's lack of investment, planning and organisation - they always leave before the ship hits the iceberg. By the '70s the smart money was already in Germany and Japan. It's now moving to India and China but their day in the sun will be short-lived.

I tried watching it, but also passed out from sheer boredom.
Bet they made the entire workforce watch that on a Wednesday afternoon for maximum effect.

Ha, I must be indoctrinated then :)

I could watch it all day, it paints a real picture of the times.
