Post subject: | Developed a misfire |
My mini has recently developed a misfire on acceleration. It seams to be getting slowly worse. I pulled the plugs out and all were quite sooty except #4 which was dark tan on the electrode and insulator but sooty around the outside. I've only been driving around the burbs so haven't been able to give it a real blast to heat it up significantly. Plugs are BP5ES. Any ideas ![]() |

Try swapping the coil to see if that makes a difference as well as the usual points, condenser and plugs |

Check all the wiring to the coil too, if you have a loose wire or spade connector it'll give a dodgy spark |

Start with spark plugs. Then leads. One thing at a time or you will not know what is causing it. Have a look under the bonnet with engine running IN THE DARK to see if there are any stray sparks. |

Checked the points for correct gap and OK. Checked the plugs and they were a little big so I closed them up to 0.025" and then checked that all the leads/connections were tight. Still had a miss. Tonight I had a look in the dark and all was dark, as it should be ![]() With nothing to loose I took it for another drive and the miss was still there. With frustration ![]() ![]() So I repeated the above and eventually the cob webs were cleared and now runs great ![]() Apparently it doesn't like being driven like Miss Daisy but more like, well ![]() Thanks for all the assistance PHIL |
