The thread below started as a query on Cooper S wing nuts but wandered off into a discussion on the features of late model Clubman GT's after I posted a crash test photo.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=91763

I thought it worth starting a new topic specific to the GT.

The drawing below details the modification made to the thermostat end engine steady bracket originally designed for the Moke (AYK8624) to enable it to be used on the Clubman GT.

The main points to note are:

  • The cutout needed to avoid the extra head bolt on the GT versus the Moke.
  • The release into production date of November 1972.
  • The note about it being limited production only. According to the GT register around 225 cars were delivered in 1973, so I guess that's called "limited" in the factory's eyes.

Thanks,
The more info we get on the late GT's the better.
You don't have the drawing of the bulkhead bracket do you?
Regards
Rod

The GT that my dad owned had one fitted. The build date was 12/72. The bracket looked exactly like the one above. I didn't think it was original but there you go.

Great stuff again Doug.

I wonder what the reason was for fitting the stabiliser right near the end of the GT production?
Can we bring up the 4 way breather now?

The PUB23 Mini parts microfiche shows the inclusion of a left hand side engine steady arrangement at YG2S8 car #1474, which is around January 1973 according to the register.

The steady bar I mentioned earlier (AYG2296) has a bend in it but I think it is used as a replacement for the clutch-end straight steady bar, not at the water pump end like we're talking here. Tomorrow I'll try to check the parts mentioned on the fiche.

Hi Doug, I went through my engine bay photos and found one of YG2S8 1448 with what looks like a 4 way breather and extra engine steady.

This is what my engine steady bracket looks like. The engine is a 970S and is fitted to a 1977 Australian Clubman:

well,,, now that we`re onto the engine steady bar thing,,, just as a side note, i do remember the original moke body braket being a little to one side , i think it was originally for the export moke 1275 & the body bracket got a slight change, thicker & mounted the bar over towards the passengers side a tad.
i`ll see if i can dig up the paper work but i`m pretty sure we actually have one here still

sorry it`s not really GT related but sort of as the bar assembly was designed around the moke initially & obviously got fitted to both the late GTs & then followed on to the 1275LS i felt it was noteworthy to mention (what i believe to be) the original incarnation of said "Body" bracket

& like i said in the GT topic, that fisrt pic of the steady bar (head) bracket was a "small-bore" one fitted upside down , so this "Export Moke" body bracket i`m talking about is sort-of a follow up while we`re on the topic of body brackets :-)

i`ll see if i can find a pic & a p/# &/or some paperwork/sumplimentry of some sort.

i just love sorting out all this stuff :-)
