Worked out today Jaffa has an old style 850 boot on him and the prev owner has given me a clubbie number plate holder.

My problem is that obviously they don't fit together. The number plate is bolted in at the moment but i'm going to need a number plate light for roadworthy.

I've been told a standard 850 number plate bracket is slim and long and will look a bit stupid with a normal vic number plate. I could always just buy another clubbie boot door but i'd rather keep the 850 on as it's already painted.

Is there any workaround to match and mix the backing? Or better still anyone got a spare old style bracket lying around (mech reckons they are pretty rare).

Good luck finding one, might have to get a clubby boot painted.

If ya get another boot done, de-flap it, it looks much better.

hmmm. I have the 850 boot... not using the flap crap.. lol its in abox out in the shed somewhere.. will find it if you want.

Ok so for those of you that don't use the flap... how have you got a numberplate light attached? do they come standalone like a moke one?

Take the numberplate light off the flap and drill a couple of holes in the boot lid and bolt the light to the boot lid. Easy!

Yeah i was hopign that was all there was to it.

Going to have to drill little holes for the leyland decal too, or maybe i'll leave it off :/.

Normal plate will work with the flap like on these Nb racers where it is a requirement to keep the bodywork intact. New 'slimline' plates should be an even better fit.

the original minis had the bum flaps so thats how it should be! thats the way they were designed and another great feature is they hang low when driving around with the boot open!!

They were there so that you could drive around with something in the boot larger than a toohbrush, with your num-plate still legal. Top idea. Not like today's stoopid cars.

Leave the flap, it looks betterer with it. Mine is certainly staying that way. It saves having to drill into the bootlid for the light, and then what do you do with the mounts for the flap anyway?
