Just wondering what would be a period correct sports steering wheel that would have been available around 1970 for a Cooper S

MotaLita was a good one, there were many others cheaper but inferior.

I have a Maxrob. They were a popular Australian brand, plenty about if you keep a look out.

Bit of trivia, it's the steering wheel used in the original Mad Max Interceptor.

I see these quite often. I have one with a leather rim, and this one with a timber rim.

No, not les leston. I think they are the Maxrob style. I'm not absolutely sure, but they're not les leston.

Micks looks like a Maxrob. Normally MAXROB stamped on bottom spoke in an oval. They came in different depths too. Made in Morabbin, Victoria.

The good thing is if you find one with the right boss and centre for a mini then the horn centre and button fits and works without any modifications.

Would the timber rim be original on mine Phill?

This wheel came with a Mini Deluxe that I owned in the 80s. This car was packed with accessories but I was to young and stupid to realise how good it was.

I fitted the wheel to my Cooper S for a while in the late 80s, it is very weathered now.
I have no idea what it is but I like it.

Hiya,

Morris1100 - yours could be an Avanti. Not sure.

This is a great resource.

Personally, I am a big LL (Leston) fan, as well as the signature series of Momos (Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda etc)

cheers! jon

Maxrob were probably the most popular aussie wheels fitted being locally made and good quality.
I was given mine as a kid and all it needed was stripping the varnish and refinishing.
