So I may not be a well known identity and have a long family history of Mini Motorsport but I would like to think that I've been around the scene for a while. I may not be able to quote the engine numbers of all Cooper S Mk1 built between 1968 and 1969. And all possible options that were avalible at the time.
Who really cares, I love these cars since the first one I bought in 1985. We all have had our own experiences and I don't think the hallowed few should be able to silence us from giving opinions and helping others to continue the passion. If I want to tell others about the mods I have done and the related pitfalls and benefits then I will do so.

Ausmini is a forum...from what I've seen, everyone gets a fair go.

Actually I agree with bluewhitecoopers1968.
I stopped posting useful info years ago because of the very same reason.
Now I just watch.

If someone wants expert advise with a warranty then go to your mini specialist and pay $80 per hour for it.
I myself like to read all of the comments to a particular question and make up my own mind. We are a free forum and people usually comment about things that they have learnt themselves over their time working on minis. There is no substitute for real world knowledge. Please don't be afraid to share. This is supposed to be low key enthusiast forum.

forum - Oxford Dictionary Definition

1. A meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

2. An Internet site where users can post comments about a particular issue or topic and reply to other users' postings; a message board.

Feel free to post whenever you wish, or sit back and watch if you prefer. The more opinions on a topic the more helpful it will likely be to others.

The primary rule is to show courtesy to other forum members, especially those who express a different view to your own. Discuss and debate the subject matter and don't get personal. If you see any anti-social behaviour report it to one of the moderators by PM, or use the button with a red exclamation mark at the bottom right of the post.

Post subject:  Re: I'd like to have a voice

I have communicated with a few members to try and see what's behind these comments as they came as a bit of a surprise to me. I think it is a different situation to some of the incidents we have unfortunately had in the distant past which involved full-on aggressive, personal attacks and insults, resulting in members being banned. No need to get into the detail of those here.

This time it seems there are some who have openly participated in discussions by posting their personal view or opinion on a topic, only to be contradicted by another member who they feel has an 'elevated position' on the forum. By this I assume they mean members who are considered 'experts' because they have been around for a long time, are regular posters (no matter the topic), or put forward their opinion in a way that assumes some sort of superiority. As a result there is often a groundswell of support for the 'experts' view, whether it be technically correct or not. Eventually the original poster tires of being bullied in this way, feels intimidated and simply stops posting.

I think that's the gist of the current concern but please correct me if I'm wrong.

This forum is a cross-section of society. We have some members with superior intellectual skills, some who haven't completed basic schooling and education so have trouble with grammar and spelling, others with a physical or other disability, and those where English is not their first language. We have males and females, youngsters and oldies (like me), some who prefer the social rather than technical parts of the forum, some who have only come into the Mini scene recently and, of course, many with permanently grease-stained hands who could strip and reassemble a Mini gearbox with their eyes closed.

When you consider that most of us have never met each other in person and that we are constrained to using text and emoticons to express ourselves it is understandable that what we say is sometimes interpreted quite differently to what we meant.

All I can suggest is that we have a think about how our post will be interpreted before we hit Submit, that we treat other members in a courteous way and don't assume we have the answers to all the questions.

In my view Ausmini is the premier resource for enthusiasts of the Australian Mini. The knowledge among our members is amazing. With a little bit of common courtesy and respect we can all continue to get what we came here for.

Feel free to post here, PM me or one of the other moderators if you have a comment you don't wish to be made public, or come and introduce yourself to me at the MKO Show and Shine next Saturday so we can chat face to face. :)

As a reasonably new member I agree with Doug 100%, I have been working on cars and motors of various kinds since 1956, I have had a reasonably long association with the BMC products since 1963 having owned/worked on and restored 2 mini's and 2 1100's during that time, last one about 24 years ago, so I consider my self to be "reasonably knowledgeable" when it comes to motors and working on older model cars.

Since I have joined this forum (which I enjoy immensely) I have been absolutely stunned as to what I do not know and that is mostly to do with the different casting and options that were available to various model mini's.

I notice that I have made some 16 posts since I joined and most of those were to do with my 1963 Mini Cooper and if it survived. Since then I have asked a number of questions or requests and received an answer or offer that made me happy with the result of that inquiry. I have a tendency to sit on the side line and read and make my own decisions as to whether the information is good, bad or just plain wrong.

I am starting to build a 1100 motor for my current project and have read a comment by GR about the ability of the 1100 crank to rev out to 8000rpm with other modifications and that is the type of information that I find excellent, even if I never rev it out to that. The forum is one of the best that I have been in and I hope it will continue that way even with a lot of people sitting on the side line, a lot can be learnt from just reading in my opinion.
