I have a 70' Matic, 60 thousand miles, and am converting to manual as the auto is stuffed, should I retain the Hydrolastic suspension or convert to dry? I bought some engine mounts to mount the manual engine in the auto frame, but now I'm thinking of switching sub-frames to dry. the hydro hasn't failed yet, but I don't want any more issues with it after I rebuild the car. any thoughts? Keep it wet mate. Plenty of spare s/h bags still about, I can re-hose them if they leak where crimped on. My `70 matic still has its original pipes and rear bags (front bags got changed as 20 years ago I fitted a GT subby + brakes etc). Just bung 1.5deg front arms, Mini front shocks and comp rear hydro bumpstops in, and it'll out-handle dry cars on the crap bumpy roads we have now. ![]() |

I would keep the hydro and have the auto rebuilt for rarities sake Everyone has a manual, not too many have an auto, or atleast keep it aside to one day go back in ![]() |

Thanks. I've been through two Auto motors already, one got blow by in cylinder 3, and god knows what happened to the second one, I was driving down the road and thick black smoke came out the exhaust and I pulled up. |

park the autobox & motor under the bench and make it a BigBlock wasaMatic like mine. You can always go back if you sell it. |

Sounds like you need a better engine builder or to modify your rev limit ![]() |

In my matic I took out the auto and changed the subframes to dry and put the motor aside till I can get it rebuilt and chucked in a manual. Anyone know a good place to get the auto motor and box rebuilt preferably in Adelaide but will send it interstate if needed? |
