Post subject: | Steering Wheel Restoration |
Hi All, I am starting to think about restoring my original MK1 steering wheel which is in pretty good shape other than one very small hairline crack at the screw hole and some missing paint, but have a couple of questions: 1. What was the original surface finish? Painted gloss (or satin?) black and clear coated? 2. I am considering glass bead blasting the whole thing but not sure how this will affect the base material (resin/plastic?). Has anyone tried this? 3. Should I repair the hairline crack or paint over it? |

There are some professionals around that will do a much better job than I did but they can be very expensive. |

Thanks for the replies. I think I will generally follow Flutes procedure as I like to have a crack at these things myself. My main reason for posting was to see if anyone had bead blasted a steering wheel and what the results were like. |
