Post subject:  Fuel

Hi,

I've just bought a 1967 Mini with a 1100s motor in it. Single carby, 1275cc.

Is there any particular fuel I should be running it on, since no one puts lead in it anymore?

eg Premium Unleaded, regular, 100RON, 98 RON, any additives?

Thanks

If it hasn't had the ULP conversion then you will need an upper cylinder lubricant. Something like Flashlube http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... mendations or Nulon Lead Substitute http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... mendations . There are a few different ones out there.
With the fuel - you will need to run a higher octane if the engine has a high compression ratio. Lots of people run 98 on their worked engines. Try it on 95 and see how you go.

Is there an easy way to tell if it has had a conversion?

Is there any problem to just use a 98 rather than a 95, I'm happy to feed it premium stuff.

Thanks

Just run 98 if your happy with that.

If you run a too low octane fuel it can knock causing damage to the piston and valves.

You can check for hardened seat inserts using a small flex camera down the spark plug hole or pull the head off.
