G'day everyone, so I'm taking my van out for the first few drives and I have found that when I apply the brakes (medium to firm pressure) I get a grinding/ticking noise as I come to a stop. Seems to sound like it could be something to do with rotors/pads but thought I would see if anyone had any suggestions, its all new parts and pads are still going through bed in phase. I am going to be getting under the car and checking it out over the next few days before I go driving again. The setup is coopers S 7.5" disc brake kit with hilo's, fast road springs and spax adjustable shocks. |

Did you clean the discs with brake cleaner and gave them a rub over with emery paper? |

No I didn't, I thought the bedding in for the pads would do the same for the rotors? |

They coat the discs in a protective oil to stop them rusting in the box. You really need to give them a good rub over with brake clean and a fresh rag. I usually give them a rub with emery too to help them bed in and not glaze. |

failing to clean the rotors won't make grinding and ticking noises - take the wheels off and turn the rotors and see what's going on |

Some wheels barely clear the caliper, near the bleed nipple. |

If you have the disc shields its not uncommon for small stones to get flicked up between this and the disc. If you take the wheel off and rotate the disc this will be obvious... Cheers, Ian |

Quite often you will need to grind a tad off the steering arm to clear the rotor & also quite often the screw that hold the drive flanges to the rotors are too long & foul on the hub-snout they`re the 2 common ones that we`ve found over the years unless you`ve totally stuffed something else up  rip it apart & have a good look"""AS""" you`re doing it, take your time & really Look at everything asyou`re doing it. you`ll find it it`s just nuts & bolts

and the winner is --> TheMiniMan wrote: Quite often you will need to grind a tad off the steering arm to clear the rotor took the wheels off this morning and sure enough on the inside of the disc there is a groove right where the steering arm sits (both front wheels), makes sense why it wasn't too bad when the discs were cold but got worse as they were warmed up. |

I had this, if you put the boot ties on the wrong way and forget to put the left-overs into the fold down clips it makes a nice click as well. |
