So, this is the colour of my mini




The previous owner has passed away and I only have written references to things that he did or thought of doing to the car.
For example:

I've tried to get this code mixed up, and it doesn't appear to be close to the green of my mini. Too dark in fact.

What I'm wondering is, is my mini actually painted in the colour of this paint code? or does it look like the colour of my mini is a custom mixed colour and the info I have found written in the book has just been wasting my time?

IMHO its useless to chase a paint code. You don't know if that is the right code ... or the mixed the code right... of if the paint has faded sine applied.

As anyone who's seen my cars will realise ...paint is not my thing....When i asked a local factor for some paint to match my car, his response was .."which bit?"

Any competent panel shop should be able to exactly match the colour of your car .. or a particular panel. Flash ones will even have special machines that measure the hue and provide a formula... but a skilled old fashioned painter will be better

Are you repainting the whole car or doing a repair?

Where did you get the paint information from above?

If you are doing a repair your best option is take a piece of the car or the whole car to whoever is mixing the colour and get the paint matched to the car, as other people have rightly pointed out the paint may have faded from what it was originally.

At the moment I'm just trying to do touch ups. But if I can get a close enough match I want to buy enough paint for a respray down the track (next 12-24 months)

The info above was hand written in a notebook by the guy that built the car/ painted the car. He has since passed away as mentioned above.

The paint is probably as close to the same colour it was painted 20 something years ago as possible as it has sat in storage for 90% of those years. I understand paint will still fade/ change over time, but I imagine this is still a close match to what it would have been off the gun back then.

I've had one paint supplies place attempt to colour match it by eye and it ended up being too light and not glossy enough compared to the original paint. Another place have offered to have a go at it as well. I just have to get back there with a panel to match it to.

In the mean time I thought that asking for experienced mini owners opinions on paint codes and colours could be helpful

I should have the colour standard for this colour at work, if you want it matched send me a pm.

If I were you I'd save my money toward getting the car resprayed. When you are ready to repaint the car get your paint supplier to supply or show you a sample of the colour you want, if you want to stick with the same colour check the colour of the new paint before you strip to old paint off so you have something to compare the new paint to.

One litre of paint Take the rear number plate holder if its a match.
Polish it up
They will spectro it and eye match
Acrylic touchup is easy but buff the car first.Yes a respray is great but if it comes down to bucks.
We did an engine bay on a red metallic car with a new car finish and the result is awesome.

Lindsay - Since you are in the trade can you recommend a paint supplier in Melbourne that will match my colour (Baltic Blue) from the number plate flap and make up some acrylic spray cans? I'm in the Caulfield area but happy to travel. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to go public.

I had a Torana white and a mate in the trade that could file finish panels lead wipe the whole deal as well as paint and colour match .Gee whats his name now but we blended half the roof in acrylic and you couldn't tell after I stuffed it up with a pressure pack lol .was rust repair around back window

It impresses me when a metallic comes off the gun spot on.

It's for small areas like the engine bay and boot where comparison with the body colour is not such an issue.

Not sure what you are saying re PM's. Lindsay has said he works in the trade (PPG was it?) and I didn't want him to feel compromised giving public endorsements of a specific business.

Yep Its probably the modern technology but I remember when no one could match a metallic and I still cant match anything but I only did nite tafe. I go great on acrylic or small two pack.
Or do the preps and call in the gun lol
