I am experimenting with various dampers to try and eliminate a flat spot I have when applying full throttle at 4000rpm onwards. I have tried various oil viscosities in the damper, but still not to the bottom of the problem. After flattening the accelerator, I need to back it off just a little in order to overcome this flat spot.I am sure it has to do with the operation of the main carb piston. I have a real good needle at the moment, and dont think it is that. Also occasionally I get a spit back through the carb in cruise , but I cant make it happen, it just does it maybe twice on a long trip, as if it is lean just for an instant.
I want to try a LZX2085 damper. At present I have a LZX1505, and have read that the 2085 helps to overcome flat spots when changing gears. Has anyone had experience with this?

I had a problem with the HIF on my Moke. The piston would bounce at idle. That made a lumpy idle from 1.5 rockers even worse. The damper allows the piston to move up a few mm before the damping action starts. This seems to be when the little brass cylinder closes up on the taper in the shaft.

I found I could cure this piston bounce by putting a real small spacer between the circlip and the brass cylinder. The spacer was like a washer but with notches cut in the sides so it didn't impede the oil flow.

I suspect the difference between any dampers is the geometry of this area so maybe give this a go?

I changed to a stock damper with a better thread when I put 1.3 rockers in and didn't have the lumpy idle.
