Post subject: | How do I change diff oil seals - with engine out |
Hi all, Pardon my ignorance.... Have my Mk2 S engine out and wanted to change the diff oil seals.....I can't seem to find clear instructions as it seems to depend on the type of joints......apparently quite easy but don't want to stuff it up...... Any help would be greatly appreciated.... |

it is as easy as it seems - assuming you have the 4 bolts removed to expose the big bolt underneath, undo said big bolt, remove inner yoke, remove seal, reassemble |

I would probably change the side plate gaskets, tappet cover gaskets, speedo drive gasket and seal, and maybe even the timing cover seal. |

Don't forget to replace the seal rubber under the big flat washer. Or oil will find its way out. I find the ones supplied now are too thick and chew up when tightened, so I slice them with a razor blade to make em 5mm thick. Then I smear them with Loctite 515 and torque the bolt to 72 ft/lb. |
