| Post subject: | Outer Door Handle Removal |
Went to fit a new outer door handle gasket today and couldn't work out how to get the surround off So is there anyone here that can tell me the correct way to get the outer door handle off I thought it was a matter of undoing some screws and out it came Your assistance is most appreciated

There is a circlip holding the outer handle to the C shaped metal piece that connects it to the latch assembly. I leave the clip off, just open the C piece a bit and it's not needed. |

So do you have to squeezed the U shaped bracket to pop it off the square shaft so you can get to the screws |

Been years since I did it but no, you can push the bracket off the handle with your fingers or a screwdriver. BTW the door latch assembly can be removed with the window and runners in, the manual does not make this clear. |

From what I remember, that U shaped bracket obscures 1 of the 3 screws only. Change the snail spring (if loose) while your there, but as mentioned the glass doesn't have to come out. |

Well i had another go today Got the circlip off Got the U-Shape bracket off And that was it Do you use a stumpy screw driver to undo the screws? My hands are not Mini Friendly I even had an endoscopy in there to see what was going on So how do you get the door lock out? |

Door lock slides forwards into the door. Then if I remember right you can put a screwdriver through the hole where the chromed cap was. |

Yep, just like the doc said. Recently done this myself, remove the 3 door lock screws, remove the chrome cap, remove the self tapper and washer and push through the locating pin inwards, catch it as it falls into the door cavity, slide the door lock towards the front of the car and remove completely, remove the circlip on the U link lever, insert phillips screwdriver through the chrome cap hole and remove the 3 screws holding the outer door handle to the body. And as suggested, replace the return spring before reinstalling. |

Tried all that and still couldn't get the door lock out due to the vertical arm attached to the inside door handle rod Might have a look next weekend |

I take you door handles are the same as the earlier deluxes and cooper s. If they are the later burst proof style, maybe the mechanism is different in this style. |
