Post subject:  engine / fuel problem its back again arrggg help

in the last couple of weeks i have had a problem with my car that seems to be happening more often. after highway driving if i go to stop at a set of light the car stalls and is very hard to start again. first time it happened i put my foot on the clutch to stop at a set of lights and the engine stalled , it started 5 min later after pumping the accelerator and using the choke :? second time was a week later pulling into a street changing down gears it stopped used the choke and pumped the accelerator to start it again. then on the way to school this morning after warming it up it stoped at the top of the street and wouldnt start even using the choke :( what is my problem

it is driven nearly everyday and starts without a choke and bearly any throttle most times

I would also a Fuel filter is choked...as the presure from the pump would keep it running normaly
Make sure you have a filter Before the Pump as it stops the crape getting into the pump :!:
this is for Mec or Electric...I'd say you would have crap in your Mech pump also
Cant say I have any experiance with Mech pumps but atleast the electrice you can clean out..Sorry.I would say a filter is blocked
:? or you'r jet in the Carb is chocked

mech pump real easy to rebuild but pain in the arse to get out. Kit for rebuild cost me $49 or somewhere bout that. Easy and quick to do. Just remember to push the arm all the up before tightening right up! Good luck if you have a go! :D

Before you spend any money on things that may not fix the problem (and create even more problems) find out what the problem is!

If you think it is the fuel filter then take off the filter! :P It costs nothing to try and it may work!

When the car is mucking up stop the engine and take the lid off the float bowl and see if there is any petrol in the bowl.

Check the fuel pump by pumping fuel into a container (like a coke bottle) while spinning the motor with the starter. It will spin better with the spark plugs out but take the wire off the coil so you don't have a lot of sparks flying around with fuel pumping out vapour!

Don't fit a filter before the pump.
Don't fit an electric pump.
Try fo fix problems not create problems.

If you have a Ryco fuel filter, they don't usually fill, they run with an air bubble in the top. As Anton found out when he sucked on the line.... blechhh.. spew... ptooey!

  bah ha ha...i wassss pished forrrrr ayges afturwordz.... :?

By the way Ben, the good Doc tells me you don't have to 'pump' the accelerator when starting a car with an SU. It's true!! I don't do it any more and I find Pops and JAM start BETTER by just turning the key :D
