Post subject: | Different sized Pot Joints |
Hello All, I've recently put a mid 80s A+ 998 automatic in my old minimatic to replace the original A series. As the new engine had pot joints rather than the hardy spicers of my original powerunit, I bought 2 second hand driveshafts out of a 70's moke. However, when I put these in the car and drive it, it sounds "loose" like the balls are clicking about inside the Pot. After a bit of research, I've read that there was sometimes a bigger set of pots (and corresponding race/balls). Has anyone else had any issues like this? Would I better trying to track down a bigger race/cage or trying to remove the Pots and replace them with standard size? Thanks |

There's a diameter difference of about 4mm between aussie clubby pot joints and rover ones. I discovered this when I tried to put the rover inners into the aussie outers - and it wouldn't fit. After finding some rover outer pot joints - I was back in business. If you've done the other way I'd bet everything inside is knackered - so best to source a complete assembly. |

Hi Harley, Yes I've the other way. Aussie inners into Rover outers. Its very noisy. I'll post up in the wanted section for rover driveshafts. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Cheers all! |
