OK, I have my rebuilt Smiths 80mm tacho and want to put it in my Cooper S. I have seen them mounted in 3 places. On the steering column, on the dash in line with the steering column and under the dash just to the right of the steering wheel. . I know this was not a factory item but it was an aftermarket item. In wanting to keep the car as original as possible where should I put the gauge? . Opinions? . Cheers Dave |

Yeh I've been wondering where to put one without making it look out of place.. I'm thinking on the steering wheel/column might be a good option. |

Yeah, I am not sure. I have a good pic of a rebuilt Mk 1 and this guy mounted it just under the dash to the right of the steering column. Bit harder to see but looks neat. All the dash and steering column brackets/pods are a bit naff? |

If you can't see it easily it's a waste of time and space, IMO. It wants to be in your line of sight. I have a Smiths one in Barney under the top rail, and a Veglia Borletti (ex Fiat) in Ha-Ha mounted directly above the steering column bracket. Both are easy to see.. ![]() Here's Ha-Ha's... I'll paint the bracket black, when the car's being repainted (soon!!) ![]() ![]() |
