I want to convert from rubber uni's on a 4 syncro box to the steel type as on Cooper S. Currently have 7.5 inch Cooper S disc brake setup with rubber uni's as per mini deluxe. Can it easily be done and what parts do I need to complete the conversion. Thanks in advance.

other than the universals, you'll need the diff side covers - steel uni type has a smaller hole than for rubber unis and pot joints (if I remember correctly...)

I reckon you're better off converting to pot joints, that's what I'm using on my S, though it's a bigger change because the driveshafts and diff output shafts need to change

You would also need Cooper S diff output shafts. Are different to rubber coupling ones.
I agree with Simon, pot joints are an easier cheaper conversion.

You need all these to convert from rubber universals.

Only downside to pot joints is you need the driveshafts too. You can get a kit with all the parts from minikingdom

If you're changing the diff output shafts you'd probably change the diff pin, bearings and planet gears while you are in there..

Thanks guys. I do have some pot joint parts but wasn't sure they would fit. Nead to go scrounging in the shed tomorrow to see what's there. great stuff.

Easy peasy, IF the shafts come out of the CVs. I have had to cut a few CVs up to get the shafts.

The "Hardy Spicer" type universal joints were fitted to the Cooper S and the Minimatic. The rubber style were fitted to everything else up until the rod change boxes, which then changed to the pot joints.

Some Mokes had Hardy Spicers too.

Were they only fitted to a particular Moke model/timeframe?
