Hey all, i pulled apart a hs4 today and found that the needle could wobble.

It could also move inwards into the piston 1mm or so.

Is this normal? Or is it just loos and needs to be tightened?

There are 2 types of needles, fixed & floating. You have the latter, it is normal for that type.

I prefer the fixed ones, as they don't rub the jet and wear it.
I think you can buy an adaptor to convert the floaty piston to take the fixed needles.

Ahh ok, I wondered if that was the case, but i've never seen a floating one before.

does the choke work in the same way as fixed needles? currently the jet is jammed and wont move, but I didn't want to try to free it up until i'd figured out what the go was with the needle.

Yes the choke works the same unless carby is a waxtat type (uncommon here).
