Recently I purchased a small journal 1100S crank. It was very rusty, but wire brushed up pretty well.

Likewise the attached primary gear had ferrous oxide all over it. I just degreased it, then submerged it in the `bath' (a yoghurt tub)

Here it is after 3 weeks in a 1:3 molasses bath, then hosed off and hand brushed-

A little more elbow grease and it'll be good to go. 8)

I did some top arms last month and was very happy with the result. It is pretty messy but.
