Decided to get some new runabout tyres to extend the life of my A008s.

With no more Bridgies available, Falkens were the only choice... which wasn't really an issue - until...

After fitting them to a set of LS type factory alloy wheels - 10X5s - (which I've used for years) I installed them on the back of my Traveller only to find that they rub on the shock body. (Yes, I do have spaced drums).

When I measured the distance from hub face to the inner edge of the sidewall, the Falken is about 15mm deeper than the same sized Bridgestone - mounted on the same type of rim.

Luckily I had 2 useable Bridgestones so they went on the rear... with stacks of room.

Has anyone else faced this issue? If so I'd appreciate advice ... Eventually I'll need to fit the Falkens to the back.

Just for interest I measured a few tyres... The new Falkens are 180mm sidewall to sidewall, the Bridgestones were 167, A008s were 169 and an old Falken was 171 (has a different sidewall design to the new one). The Yokie and old Falken were mounted on 4.5 S wheels.

Despite the overall dimension ...and the difference wheel sizes...when the "inset" difference was measured, the Bridgie was 2mm less the the Yoko which was 2 mm less than the old Falken. Howeveer, the new Falken was 15 mm deeper than the Bridgestone on the same wheel.. So everything fits..except the Falken on a factory wheel GGRRR.

Yup.. both old and new. The old ones have smooth sidewalls whereas the new ones have a radial stripey pattern..

Do you need 4-1/2" inchers rather than 5'ves?

I know this may not help, but, I am running 12's with ZE912, which is (when I had them fitted) the latest falken patturn, 165/60R12 - 71H. I don't drive to hard (most of the time). I do not know if they come in 10's but they seem to fit well.

Probably, the spare is the old Falken on an S rim and I'm sure that fits.

Just surprised that the factory alloys don't fit with a particular type of 165 tyre......

Cheers

Thanks Hobson, I've got 10s. Cheers

Yes These LS offset wheels are quite deep. I need to run them with 1" spacered drums in the rear for them not to touch and even then it's a tight squeeze without much clearance. The overriding factor may be your rear camber. Mine is set to -0.5 at the rear (or maybe 0 I can't remember). If you have more camber a the rear or a bent trailing arm this could be the case?

I had this exact issue a few years ago. My solution was add a 1/4" spacer plate to the rear spaced drums. Fixed.

I had that problem with FK07E's in 1995 when I bought my first ever set of tyres... standard drums and wide offset contessas. ~4mm spacers

I bought new a008's last week, were $128 against $120 for the Falkens

Does this mean you need flares?

No they still sit under the standard arch just fine.
