Post subject:  Cast iron welding

I have a block that has suffered damage to one of the locating stud holes to gearbox.
Accident damage.
It needs a copper round insert to be made to weld with what I think are these
gemini 98 welding rod for cast iron.
There is still half a hole there .Should I even bother.

Can you drill and tap it further in?

I would weld the boss up solid with castcraft 100 (100% nickel) electrode then re-machine the hole on the mill.
The nickel deposit is fully machinable.
